***********BLT TRIUMPHANT WEEKEND***************

The weekend of June 6th & 7th 2008 will be one that will be long remembered at our Little Theatre.  On Friday 6th at the Gwent Drama League Awards, Rose Collins won Best Supporting Actress for her roles in Brassed Off and in Improbable Fiction; Brassed Off director ( Peta Maidman ) collected on behalf of her cast, crew and Markham Band both 3rd place (Production) and Most Memorable Moment for the  band sequence at the end of the play.  So a great haul of prizes - well done to all those who were involved in our entered productions.

Whilst the GDL awards were being held at the Dolman Theatre  in Newport, Rose Collins and the rest of the cast of Last Tango in Blackwood, were performing their play at the Blackwood Miners Institute in the Wales Final Festival of One Act Plays.  They gave a superb account of themselves and the theatre, with the adjudicator (Paul Fowler) declaring that he had seen over 30 productions of this play over the years, but had never seen one quite like Blackwood's.  The adjudication was very, very positive - however, competition at a Wales Final is always tough and strong productions from Telstars, New Tabernacle Players on Friday were followed by 3 contrasting (and equally strong) productions from North Wales groups on Saturday.

This was the 5th consecutive year that we had reached the Wales Final - a feat to be very proud of....but we had yet to win.  That all changed on Saturday 7th June 2008 as Blackwood Little Theatre became the Wales Champions and will now go on to represent the Principality at the British Final on July 4th & 5th in Swansea!!

All the cast and crew were amazing, with Aneurin Brown winning the Best Presentation  for the Lighting and Sound for the production.  In the 3rd and final awards category - Best Performance - both Trevor Howlett and Huw Rosser were nominated.

Thank you to all our loyal supporters, who I hope will be able to join us at the Taliesin Arts Centre in July for The British Final.
